About Us

Organized as a non-profit entity in February, 2016 by founding parents of children involved in dance for 4-6 years each, who were displaced by the closing of their dance studio in Kealakekua. A Board of Directors was formed from these families and a location established. IRS Determination of 501c3 status, was recieved in September, 2017.  Kona Dance and Performing Arts operates from Kealakekua, in the area of South Kona and collaborates with other non-profit entities, establishments in the arts across the County of Hawaii.

The mission at Kona Dance and Performing Arts is to strive to provide high quality education and
instruction in dance and performing arts to the local youth and the Big Island community. KDPA maintains and operates through a primary program, the Youth After School Dance Program, which serves local youth, ages of three to eighteen. KDPA fulfills its mission by offering multi genre dance classes such as pre-ballet, ballet, tap, Jazz, hip hop, contemporary, breakdance and musical theater at affordable rates.
KDPA believes strongly that arts education is not a luxury but is imperative for developing the mind, body, and spirit of each individual. Creative expression, especially for the young, provides the building blocks of childhood development by filling the need to express creativity while providing a safe environment. This benefits students’ motor skills, visual learning skills, language development, decision making, inventiveness, and cultural awareness, bringing well- adjusted adults into our community.
